Stone Cottage Full Restoration
In restoring this listed historic structure, our Edinburgh stonemasons confronted badly deteriorated masonry after removing the old render.
Despite initial doubts about salvaging the underlying stone from the client and Local Authority we assured them it was do-able. The pictures show we were correct.
Decayed stone pieces were replaced with high-quality natural stone, meticulously matched in colour, size, and shape. A rusty steel lintel was swapped for a new sandstone one, and reclaimed stone formed a jamb detail and window, all set with lime mortars.
Extensive repointing followed, using a durable NHL5 lime mortar due to the building’s proximity to the sea.
The restoration concluded with skilled Lithomex stonemasonry repairs to the skew coping stones, showcasing our expertise in preserving historic structures.
